2022 Opportunity Scholarship Recipients

The City of Wood Village is proud to announce this year's Opportunity Scholarship recipients. Congratulations to Maria Hernandez Angel, Brian Montes, Jeffrey Castillo Reyes, Malaysia Jones, and Abigail Fox.

Maria Hernandez Angel

Maria was a recipient of the Opportunity Scholarship back

in 2020.  Since that time, she has been working diligently on her goal of working in the healthcare field.  She is nearly completed with her program of becoming a Medical Assistant, and this scholarship should help her get to the finish line.  Congratulations Maria!

Brian Montes

Brian received a scholarship last year to help him attend Portland State University with plans of pursuing a degree in Political Science.  Brian is still on track with exceptional grades and is involved with student government and the Oregon Student Association.  Keep up the good work, and congratulations Brian!

Jeffrey Castillo Reyes

Jeffrey has big ideas for his future as an entrepreneur and wants to continue learning about business and investments.  He has already taken several college level classes in high school and plans to continue that work at Mt. Hood Community College.  Ultimately, Jeffrey would like to become a philanthropist to help others grow and thrive.  Congratulations Jeffrey!

Malaysia Jones

Malaysia also received a scholarship last year and is continuing her work at the University of Oregon where she is studying public policy and planning with the hopes of working on affordable housing projects and policies.  Keep at it, and congratulations Malaysia!

Abigail Fox

Abigail is driven, determined, and is not afraid to go after her dreams.  She has overcome several adversities, and still finds time to give back at organizations like Snow Cap and Metropolitan Family Services.  Abigail has a passion for theater and will be attending Portland State University for Theater Arts and Education so that she can become a high school theater teacher.  Good luck and congratulations Abigail!

About the Opportunity Scholarship

The City of Wood Village Opportunity Scholarship was established to help fund and assist students in Wood Village to achieve their dreams.  This scholarship was made available to recent high school graduates, GED recipients, and others who are pursing higher education that live in Wood Village.  While it may only provide for a small portion of overall college costs, we hope it has a big impact for all those who receive it.  It’s just another way we’re creating a Wood Village that’s unique, special, and that serves its community.
