From September 15th until October 15th, the City of Wood Village acknowledges and celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. At the Tuesday, September 12th City Council meeting, a proclamation was read acknowledging Hispanic Heritage Month as an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural traditions and honor the significant achievements of our Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx people and communities. Members of the Lideres Naturales community group attended the meeting and one member read the proclamation aloud in Spanish. Council President Jairo Rios-Campos then read the proclamation in English. Proclamación del Mes de la Herencia Hispana

Considerando que, Cada año, los Estados Unidos celebran el Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana celebrando la cultura, la herencia y las innumerables contribuciones de aquellos antepasados que eran indígenas de América del Norte, así como de aquellos que vinieron de España, México, el Caribe, América Central y América del Sur; y

CONSIDERANDO QUE, El cual comenzó en 1968 cuando la Semana de la Herencia Hispana bajo el presidente Johnson fue ampliada por el presidente Reagan en 1988 para cubrir un período de 30 días que comienza el 15 de septiembre y termina el 15 de octubre; y

CONSIDERANDO QUE, La fecha del 15 de septiembre es significativa porque es el aniversario de la independencia para los países latinoamericanos de Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua. Además, México y Chile celebran sus días de independencia el 16 y 18 de septiembre, respectivamente; y

CONSIDERADO QUE, El Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana es una oportunidad para celebrar la rica tradición cultural y honrar los logros significativos de nuestros pueblos y comunidades hispanas, latinas y latinx; y

CONSIDERADO QUE, La población hispana en Wood Village es de aproximadamente el 41% y representa una amplia gama de nacionalidades y orígenes que reflejan la notable diversidad del pueblo estadounidense; y

Considerando que, El pueblo hispano continúa su rica tradición de contribuciones significativas y diversas a la vitalidad cultural, educativa, económica, de salud y general de la ciudad de Wood Village.

Ahora, por lo tanto, yo John C.Miner, Alcalde de la ciudad de Wood Village, proclamo del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre de 2023 como el Mes de la Herencia Hispana y aliento a todos los residentes a celebrar la herencia y los logros de los hispanos, latinos y latinoamericanos y reconocer sus contribuciones a nuestra nación y ciudad.

Proclamado, firmado y sellado este 12º día de septiembre de 2023 en la ciudad de Wood Village, Oregón.

Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation

Whereas, Each year, the United States observes National Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the culture, heritage and countless contributions of those whose ancestors were indigenous to North America as well as those who came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and South America; and

Whereas, What began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Johnson was expanded by President Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15; and

Whereas, The date September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively; and

Whereas, National Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural traditions and honor the significant achievements of our Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx people and communities; and

Whereas, The Hispanic population in Wood Village is approximately 42% and represents a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds which reflect the remarkable diversity of the American people; and

Whereas, Hispanic people continue their rich tradition of significant and diverse contributions to the cultural, educational, economic, health, and overall vitality of the City of Wood Village.

Now, therefore I, John C.Miner, Mayor of the City of Wood Village, proclaim September 15th – October 15th, 2023 as Hispanic Heritage Month and encourage all community members to celebrate the heritage and achievements of Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx Americans and recognize their contributions to our nation and City.

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

On Friday, September 15th, a celebration will take place on the Wood Village City Hall & Civic Center Plaza from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., hosted in partnership with Lideres Naturales, Familias en Acción, and PlayEast! Recreation, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The celebration is a free community event open to all with food, music, dancing, and more.
