Volunteer Opportunities

Did you know that you can influence and shape the priorities and development of the park system and even new investments of the City? Well, you can. The City has volunteer openings on the Planning Commission, Parks Commission, and Urban Renewal Agency.

  • Planning Commission: Members of the Planning Commission meet as needed to discuss land use, zoning, and design review projects and standards for the City. Each member serves a four-year term.
  • Parks Commission: The Parks Commission shapes and develops recommendations to the City Council on park project priorities, provides guidance on park project elements, and helps shape the future of the City’s overall park system. The Parks Commission does not have a regularly scheduled meeting and meets as needed. Each member serves a two-year term.
  • Urban Renewal: The Urban Renewal Agency oversees all Urban Renewal priorities, projects, and its annual budget. Like the other commissions, this Board also meets as needed throughout the year. Each member serves a four-year term.

Volunteering for these Boards and Commissions is a great way to give back to this great City, while at the same time allowing you to have a direct impact on not only the daily service needs of the City, but also the long-term vision and goals. All appointments are done by the City Council based on a completed application. The application is on our website or can be picked up at City Hall. We are accepting applications until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 23rd. Please call Greg at (503) 489-6854 with questions about serving on the boards.
